May 2021 Dividends
Greetings everyone,
Thanks again for stopping by, it is once again time to recap the previous month's dividend income, and take stock of progress with increasing said income (no pun intended).
First, let's take a look at who paid me in May of 2021:
Next, let's take a look at my transactions for May 2021.
Buys
I made the following purchases:
- Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): I purchased 10 shares of JNJ, adding $42.40 in forward 12-month dividend income. I continue to add shares of this company every week, even though I do think it is overvalued. I continue to dollar cost average into this company, regardless. If it drops and becomes undervalued, I can add more.
- Kroger (KR): I purchased 1 share, adding $0.72 in forward 12-month dividend income.
- Microsoft (MSFT): I purchased 4 shares, adding $8.96 in forward 12-month dividend income. I also continue to add shares every week, as I am dollar cost averaging into MSFT, like JNJ.
- Procter & Gamble (PG): I purchased 1 share, adding $3.48 in forward 12-month income.
- UGI Corp. (UGI): I purchased 11 shares, adding $15.18 in forward 12-month income.
- Emerson Electric Co. (EMR): I sold all 6 of my shares and used the proceeds to purchase some of the stocks listed above. I decided to sell mainly because there has not been much recent dividend growth (1.26% 5yr Dividend Growth Rate), so I decided to shift the money over stock with better dividend growth prospects. I was able also to get a decent return on it, though, since my cost basis was at approximately $53/share, and it was in the mid 90s at the time of sale.
As shown above, dividend payouts equaled $233.47 for May 2021, which continues an upward progression for May payout totals. In fact, % change comparisons are shown below for comparing against a quarter ago as well as a year ago.
Comparison of Payouts from the Last Quarter (3 Months Ago) and a Year Ago
Normally one would expect to see a larger % change when compared to the previous year as opposed to the previous quarter, but not the case for the May payouts. Looking back at individual payouts from 3 months ago and from a year ago, the main reason for this was that the May 2020 payouts included a decent sized amount from Lazard Ltd (LAZ), which I have since sold (and reallocated the proceeds to stocks that paid dividends in other months). Over the last 3 months, I did add significantly to my CVS position, which added quite a bit to the payouts for May 2021 in comparison with February 2021. These 2 things are the major reasons why such odd results were seen in comparing with the last 3 months and the last year. Taking the LAZ into account, it is good to see that there was still an increase in income last month compared with that of May 2020.
Conclusion
So there you have it for the dividend income received in May 2021. Still glad to see it increasing, even with some portfolio changes.
