May 2019 Dividends

Hello everyone,

Thanks for taking the time once again to stop in and have a look at my dividend update, albeit very late.

Sincerest apologies, as this is coming out just when June is nearing a close, but better late than never for a May update, right?

Let's get to the numbers for May 2019:

Forward 12-month Projected Dividend Income Total

This looked like another healthy month of dividends, totaling $187.18, which turned out to be decent increase over the last quarter and year. TD sometimes will pay out at the end of the first month in the quarter, but this time it did not and instead paid out in the beginning of May (I will gladly count it).

The portfolio is recovering nicely, since I had to take some gains off the table for house down payment money a couple months back. It is not quite where it was before, but it is getting there.

Now, let's look at my transactions for May:

It felt good to get back to the activity of making regular buys again, as I added to my LAZ (Lazard Ltd.) and WBA (Walgreens Boots-Alliance) positions, 2 stocks that I feel continue to be undervalued.

They have experienced some recent pain as far as the stock price goes, but I feel they are solid businesses, and they are still raising their dividend at decent yearly rates with enough coverage to do so.

I am confident that things will pick up for both. I've built up substantial positions in each, and the next dividend payments for these 2 will be substantial as well, which I'll be looking forward to.

Let's take a look from a historical dividend perspective:

December$63.55$49.89$168.03$234.71$255.99

and graphically:

A look at both the table and the graph shows that May 2019 gave a nice recovery as far as dividend income. In other recent months, I had been seeing decreases, likely due to moving some money into savings for the house down payment, as well as some lower payments from the ETFs in the portfolio. It is good to now see increases on a quarterly and annual basis.

Now let's see by how much:

%Chg Qtr%Chg Year
May 20195.12%15.25%

Decent numbers for the quarter and year comparisons, as in the last quarter, dividend income went from $178.07 (February 2019) to $187.18. In the last year, dividend income went from $162.41 (May 2018) to $187.18. Not bad at all.

So that wraps up another month, a pleasing one at that, as dividend income increases have returned. It also feels good to be adding again to the portfolio as well to cause future income increases.

The house hunt is in full force, now that we are in the summer months (house pricing also is in full force). As I look at the overall financial picture and what will be needed for the house down payment, as well as additional work that the potential house may need, I may need to sell some more of the portfolio to account for the additional work, but we shall see. If and when that happens, then I anticipate afterward, that the portfolio will recover and I can get back to regular substantial buys again down the road.

For now, I'm celebrating the gains of May 2019.
